Bravest woman in Jefferson County - 1/30/11

There will be a separate post detailing the Nashville trip and JP's CD release show with pictures.  However this post is to honor a very brave woman.  One that stepped forward, put her safety to the side and charged head long into a battle of her own.  My sister in law, Regina.  She volunteered to come in from Columbia and watch our girls this weekend while we were in Nashville.  In addition to my two girls she had both of her boys.  So the rundown is 4 kids between the ages 5 and 7 and 2 dogs.  She was the bravest woman in Jeffco, while we all scooted out and partied.  She is the topic for my picture of the day.  Here she is and still as beautiful as ever after a long weekend.  Thanks Reggie, we love you!

Budweiser battle requires the proper gear - 1/29/11

I am into the 2nd day of a fierce battle in Nashville.  I am holding my own but Mr. Budweiser is pulling out all the stops.  I found these in a store.  I am thinking these "beer goggles" might be just what I need to aid me in my fight.  It is the picture of the day.

Josh Pruno - Rehearsal - 1/28/11

The time has come.  We are only one night out from the CD release party.  Many of the fans, friends and family are arriving in Nashville.  I just left the rehearsal and had the opportunity to photography it.  The fans are in for a real show tomorrow night.  This is the topic for the picture of the day.  And, yes that is a Kenny Powers shirt!

South Broadway & the birthplace of the Drill Instructor - 1/27/11

Every Professional Wrestler has a place where it all began.  Almost 20 years ago when I started the gym was anything but fancy.  It was filled with great talent like Johnny Jett, Pete Madden, John Blackheart, Big Ben, Frankie D and the Magic Man.  It was some of the best times of my life.  There are plenty of stories (www.bloodtablesandchairs.com you can pick up all the stories here).  They gym where Pete Madden gave me my name, The Drill Instructor and the name of my finishing move The Dishonorable Discharge, is virtually unchanged since the 1st night I walked in.  I think the peeling paint and the faded brick is a perfect topic for my picture of the day.

Death Penalty: To kill or not to kill, what's your stance?

The ultimate penalty for the ultimate crime?  An eye for an eye?  A justifiable punishment for those who have killed?  Is it state led homicide?  All questions only you as a person can answer.  The number of arguments is incalculable.  They vary from legality to religious beliefs.

35 of the 50 states have a death penalty.  There are approximately 3,260 Death Row inmates in the US.  61 of those are women.  46 inmates were executed in 2010, that’s down from 52 in 2009 and up from the 37 in 2008.  The state of Texas led the charge with 17 executions.  This is more than double the next highest state, Ohio, with 8.  There were 4 states with a death penalty that didn’t execute anyone last year.  Missouri was one of those states.  Indiana, South Carolina and Tennessee were the other three.  However, Missouri is 5th overall in executions since 1976 with 67.

Texas executed about 40% of its Death Row inmates and California only about 1%.  The comedian Ron White, I think says it best, “you kill somebody in Texas, and they will kill you back.”

On an average there are approximately 20,000 murders per year in the US.  There are approximately 15,000 arrests made.  About 14,000 in up in court and approximately 10,000 are convicted.  Of those 10,000 convictions, 3,000 are eligible to receive the death penalty.  Only about 115 get it.  The Grim Reaper will only visit approximately 45 of them.

Many will argue the death penalty is arbitrary.  I agree with that.  Each person that receives a murder conviction should get it.  That would take the arbitrary out of it.  Sounds harsh?  Harsh is what the convicted did to get to their present residence.

What about the innocent ones on Death Row?  There are a few, very few.  In the years of 1973-1999 there was an average of 3.1 exonerations per year.  During the years of 2000-2007 there has been average of 5 per year.  However, take this into consideration as well, of the 52,000 state prison inmates serving time for murder in 1984, approximately 810 of them had been convicted of murder prior and had killed 821 people following their previous murder conviction.  It is estimated that criminals free on parole or probation commit almost 85,000 violent crimes per year.  Back to the 821 people; 821 lives may not seem like many.  What if just one of those 821 was your child?

About 15% of those on Death Row had committed at least on additional murder prior to committing the murder that placed them on Death Row.  67% had prior felony convictions and 42% had active criminal justice status.  Do you see a pattern?  How many chances do they get?  How many chances did their victims get?

“Just put them in prison forever, that’s worse than death.”  Is it?  They have a place to sleep, hot meals and medical care.  They are still above ground and breathing.  The few Death Row inmates I have had contact with, the thought of the Last Walk, being strapped onto the gurney and the little prick in the arm terrifies them.  Ted Bundy taunted everyone about not being afraid to die.  It all changed when the guards came and had to drag him out of his cell.  How many defense attorneys do you hear arguing for their client to receive the death penalty because life in prison is worse?

Many will argue the death penalty is not a deterrent.  I think if it was enforced across the boards it would be.  Maybe it wouldn’t be.  I can with 100% certainty say there has never been one case in history been a repeat offender after an execution.  It may not deter, but it will remove murderers from society.

It is cheaper to put them in prison than to execute them.  This is where the system is flawed.  We allow the millions of dollars in legal fees for the appeals to ensure the rights of our biggest human rights violators are treated fair.  This is where I throw the Bullshit flag.  The average stay on Death Row is a little over 14 years.  One appeal, maybe.  These people are convicted beyond a shadow of a doubt right?

We have a convicted murderer from here in Jefferson County, Carmen Deck who is an example of cheating the Reaper.  Deck has had numerous appeals from numerous reasons.  The outcome has always been the same, death.  How many appeals are there?

I guess the most prominent argument is it is cruel and unusual punishment.  I here throw my 2nd Bullshit flag.  I follow that with, 1st “who  cares” and 2nd “are you kidding me?”  If you are being strapped into the chair or onto the gurney, you have done something really bad to be in this position.  I don’t care if you hurt or not.  Lethal injection is about as humane of way to check out that I can think of.

In 1999, the execution of Allen “Tiny” Davis in Florida’s electric chair brought national media attention to executions.  Davis suffered a nose bleed and burns on his head, leg and groin area during his execution.  His post execution pictures are all over the internet.  I admit they are rough to look at.  These pictures and reports of his injury threw the cruel and unusual punishment argument into full speed.  Before everyone who opposes the death penalty jumps up with that Perry Mason “a-ha” moment; let’s look at what Davis did to end up in this position.

17 years earlier (yes 17 years), while on parole for armed robbery, he broke in to the Weiler home.  He encounters the woman of the home, Nancy Weiler.  Davis beats her almost beyond recognition with a .357 Magnum pistol.  He beat her until the trigger guard, wood grips and metal frame of the gun broke.  Oh, I forgot to mention she was 3 months pregnant.  Davis was just getting started.  He then tied up the Weiler’s 10 year old daughter, Kristy, and shot her in the face.  Twice.  The remaining child, 5 year old Kathy (who was the same age as my youngest daughter right now) tried to run and escape.  Davis shot her in the back and then beat her, crushing her skull.

So I ask, was it cruel to execute Davis?  Obviously it was a rough ride when he rode the lightning, this according to the pictures.  I would be willing to bet the crime scene pictures from inside the house would be worse.  Do you really care if it was cruel for him?  I don’t.

You kill someone; you forfeit your right to live.  You made the choice to pay the quarter to get on the ride.  Don’t bitch about the ride.  I couldn’t care less if your ride is a little bumpy.  Yet, Protestors will come from all over to defend and try to block the execution of an Allen Lee Davis.  They cry for his rights and hold candle light vigils.  What about the Weilers?  What about their rights?  Think of the horrors those little girls went through.  Think of 5 year old Kathy running for her life.  The state of Florida got it right, Davis will never kill again.

Many will say only God has the right to judge.  I agree.  I guess I think of it as a travel service and we are expediting the trip so the face to face judgment can occur.

What's Playing in Your Car? - 1/26/11

Only 3 days left until the Nashville event.  Josh Pruno's CD release party.  What's playing on your iPod, MP3, etc?  What's playing on mine is the topic for the picture of the day.

Kicking it in the Dentist Chair - 1/25/11

The thought of going to the dentist, the sound of that drill and the drool running from your mouth as you mumble trying to talk is one that no one looks forward to.  What can even be worse would be taking your kids to the dentist.  Well, knock on wood, even the possibly over dramatic person my daughter Madison is, she sits there as cool as a cucumber no matter what the dentist does.  Today's trip was to replace the filling Madison popped out while eating pizza watching the game with me on Sunday.  This is the picture of the day.  It sures looks alot different than when I would go as a kid.

Sex Offenders, Pedophiles and Rehab for Them

Several weeks ago I made a post as I was walking through the local Wal-Mart. The reason for the post, I saw one of the many sex offenders that I had put in prison walking with a woman and her small kids. There were several people that commented on the post. I understand that in the eyes of the legal system he has "paid" his debt for his crimes. I don't agree.

A couple weeks ago, I am bowling with my wife and daughters on a Saturday afternoon. While we are having fun, I look up and in walks another sex offender that I had put in jail. We make eye contact and pulls an about face and back out the door he goes. In the eyes of the law he has also paid his debt.

Both the guy from Wal-Mart and the one from the bowling alley are both registered Sex Offenders. They walk amongst everyone and blend right into the crowd. What does a sex offender look like? I can tell you none of them I ever dealt with ever "looked" like a pedophile. There is not distinguishing physical trait, no warning sign around their necks. They look like anyone else.

Let's give them therapy. Let's rehab them, with enough counseling we can help them. Bullshit! You do not fix pedophiles, child molesting baby rapers. There is not a lower form of scum walking the planet than those who hurt children. These weak, sick, sadistic pieces of trash prey upon the innocent and the defenseless.

You don't "fix" these people. I don't care how much therapy or group hugs you give them. You don't rehab a pedophile. It is not possible. I guess, I should retract that last part. There is a way to fix them, but they haven't made child molesting a capital offense. So until that time, there is no fixing them.

This is not just a rant by a strong opinioned person. After many years as a police officer and investigating several of these cases, I feel that I can weigh in on this topic. I think you have to try to climb into the sewer that is the offender's mind. I feel when you boil it all down, kids for whatever reason, is what does it for these people. Kids are what trips their triggers. That is what does it for them. You can't fix that. The mental make up of these people for whatever reasons, kids sexually satisfy them. If that is your "thing", then it is your "thing". I don't believe you change that. It is not possible.

It is not possible to "convert" someone into being sexually attracted to something different. I am referring to the deep inner desire one has to whatever floats their boat. What do I mean? If you like stuffed animals in school girls outfits, then you are going to still like that even if I tell you it's wrong and send you to therapy for it. You are still, inside, going to like the same thing.

Many of the offenders will tell you if they get the chance to molest again, they will. They know it's wrong. They can't help themselves. They will trade their freedom for it. Many of these cases are made from the "treasure chest" the pedophiles keep. They will keep "souvenirs" of their crimes. They will keep these items knowing if they are found will send them to prison. They can't bring themselves to part with these "treasures". You are not going to fix a person like this.

I have interviewed several of these offenders. There were several of them who did not feel what they had done was wrong. They are in the mindset they were "teaching" their victims or their victims were "already sexually active". Yeah, they were active because you were molesting them. Without question, these were the most disturbing cases I ever worked.

The bottom line, these people are not going to change, ever. I don't care how much therapy is given, nothing in their make up is going to change. The news is filled with stories of repeat offenders offending again. It is everyone's duty to pay attention the to the laws and judged that are lenient on offenders. We must pay attention to the bleeding heart groups that want to rehab them. Most important, pay attention to your children, what they are doing, where they are going and who they are around.

I am enclosing a couple very helpful websites. One is the Jefferson County, Missouri registered offenders list. This site has pictures, address and conviction information.

Here is the link: http://www.jcsd.org/offenders/offender.xml

The 2nd site is  http://www.familywatchdog.us/ You enter your address and it shows on a map the offenders that live near you.

Check these sites and gain as much knowledge as you can.

I Met Some TV Actors Today - 1/24/11

Today, when I was out with my wife doing some shopping, I ran into a group of TV actors.  I see this group almost everyday on TV.  They always seem really happy and nice.  They are always joking, laughing, walking around and whistling.  Well, I can tell you they are not like then when you run into them in the store.  I couldn't get them speak, shake hands or anything.  They wouldn't even make eye contact with me.  They acted like I wasn't even there.  I finally just snapped a quick picture and walked away.  It is today's picture of the day.  So, the next time you  are in Old Navy and you see the group from the commercial, don't waste your time because they won't speak!

On second thought as I walked around the store I saw this sign and I knew for sure I was in the wrong place to find any clothes to wear.

Herculaneum's Boys of Fall - 1/22/11

Tonight we celebrated at the annual Herculaneum Football Awards Banquet.  We looked back over the great season we had and recognized players with individual awards.  To have the opportunity to go back to the high school that I played for and coach, is one of the greatest experiences in my life.  The conclusion of the banquet officially brought last season to a close and the 2011 season has started.  A complete run down of the end of year stats and awards will be listed at www.herkyfootball.com .

The seniors this year were a great and talented class.  They will be missed.  At the end of the night they presented each coach with their own Boys of Fall shirt.  That shirt is the topic of today's picture of the day.

Josh Pruno's, That's My Cross

Here is one of the newest tunes put out by Josh.  It is a very powerful song, with an even more powerful message.  Check it out.

Josh Pruno - Hottest ticket in Nashville - 1/21/11

I can't brag enough on my best friend, what he is accomplishing in Nashville and on the country music scene.  His latest single is steadily climbing up the charts.  Next week, Josh Pruno, is hosting his official CD release party in the Reverb Room at the Hard Rock in Nashville.  The tickets for this event have went fast.I can't encourage you enough to search him out on Facebook, the web or iTunes.

I promise you that you will be hearing more and more from Josh.  This is gonna be your year brother!  The them for today's picture of the day is the hottest ticket in Nashville.

Watch my truck you felon and is that dental floss on my sandwich?

I have worked in law enforcement since the early 1990's.  I have worked with my share of great cops and many who should have never been given a gun or a badge.  I have also heard of all the horror stories about cops getting that "special" sauce in their food.  I am pretty confident this happens on a fairly regular basis.  When I worked the street, if it was fast food, I made sure it was something already prepared under the warming lights that I ordered.  If it had to be cooked, I would sit where I could see the preparation or knew it was "cop friendly" establishment.  I feel that putting something in someone's food places you in the front of the "ass kicking coming" line.  That brings me to my first story:

Cook jailed for putting hair in cop's sandwich

EVESHAM, N.J. (AP) -- A former cook at a New Jersey restaurant is getting 15 days in jail for adding an unwelcome ingredient to a police officer's bagel sandwich.
Twenty-seven-year-old Ryan Burke admitted putting his own pubic and chest hairs in the sandwich in February 2010. He pleaded guilty to aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and retaliation for a past official action.  The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill reports a judge sentenced Burke last week to 15 days in prison, to be served on weekends. He's also ordered to serve two years of probation.  Authorities say the Evesham police officer had previously stopped Burke for a traffic violation.

Now, I would never condone something like that being done.  However, the 2nd story I  found, well someone could wipe their ass with his bagel sandwich and he would deserve it.

Kentucky cop ticketed 7-year-old boy for hitting truck

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Ticketing a kid has gotten a Kentucky cop in trouble. The Metro Louisville police officer (Cody Chapelle) has been suspended for 15 days. The officer had cited a 7-year-old boy for hitting his truck with a ball. The youngster was charged with third-degree criminal mischief. Police Chief Robert White says one of the department's greatest assets is common sense and the officer showed none. The citation was tossed out of court. The Courier-Journal reports the officer is appealing his suspension

Northbound I-55 re-opens after deadly crash downtown

I drove by this on the way in this morning.  It appeared to have happen just before I go there:

A bizarre chain of events on I-55 North near downtown resulted in a man falling to his death.
St. Louis Police said it started with a minor crash in which the two drivers got out of their cars to exchange information.  Then another car hit them.  One person ended up going over the overpass and falling approximately 50 feet to the ground at Chouteau and Third Street.  Two other people on the interstate went to the hospital but they're going to be okay.  Police suspect a slick spot in the road likely caused the crashes.  Lt. Carlos Ross said MODOT's done a fine job keeping the highways drivable.  What he thinks happened is snow or ice coming off another car or cars hit the pavement and refroze causing the slick spot.
Lt. Ross says it's a mistake for people to get out of their cars on the interstate if they can avoid it.  If drivers can still drive their cars they should get off at the next exit to exchange information and/or call police.
The northbound lanes were closed for several hours between park Ave/7th St. and I-64/I-70 while crews cleared the roadway.

The Man of Steel has Turned to Wood and Cracked - 1/20/11

I am sick of the snow.  I am sick of the cold.  You ask about the Missouri winter?  Even though it has not been as cold as some, it has still been cold.  How cold?  Well the Man of Steel himself has turned to wood and cracked right down the middle.  Damn that's cold and the picture of the day.

My Studio - 1/19/11

McHawes Photography has been in operation for a little over 4 years now and business gets better as each year passes.  I am thankful for that.  For the past couple of years we have kicked around the idea of renting a "store front" studio.  we have not taken the leap for various reasons.  As of now, and for the near future, the basement is transformed and all of my studio portraits are done here.  It is a simple set up and it allows me to produce great portraits.  It is today's picture of the day.

The Girls 1st Night of Basketball - 1/18/11

My wife and I have decided that we may need a little bit more stress in our lives.  So, we decided the best way to add that would be to sign both of the girls up for basketball.  That should do it.  I am pretty sure I read somewhere that girl's basketball is outlawed in 17 states.  The next several Saturday mornings will be spent watching basketball.  The oldest kids on the floor will be 6.  This should be interesting.  Tonight was the 1st night of practice.  There was no doubt, this would provide the picture of the day.

Man accused of raping 4-year-old who contracted STDs

I picked this news story up from the KMOV website.  I guess my only real question is this, is there a punishment that is truly suitable for this piece of trash?  Sex offenders that prey on children are below the lowest forms of life on the planet.  I believe if you hurt a child you automatically surrender all of your rights.  There is no rehab to "help" you with your problem.

A 19-year-old man is charged with raping a 4-year-old. According to St. Louis County court records, the child tested positive for gonorrhea and chlamydia.

James M. Davis, of East St. Louis, is charged with statutory rape in the first degree. The abuse allegedly occurred between October 31st, 2009 and January 14th, 2010 in an apartment in St. Louis County.  Police said they began an investigation last fall.

Social workers, who work with abuse victims, say it's not that uncommon for children to test positive for an STD.  Margie Batek, a lead social worker at Children's Hospital, said slightly less than half of the abuse cases evaluated for sexual abuse involve sexually transmitted diseases.

"Even in those children where we don't have the results back, if they've been exposed and there's a possibility that they may have contracted a sexually transmitted disease, usually, prophylaxis is given to ensure they don't develop that disease," said Batek.

Where I Spend Most of My Time - 1/17/11

This is the World Headquarter's for McHawes Photography, McHawes Media, Web Site Central, Coach McHawes (O-Line coach for Herculaneum Football) and Dennis McHawes the author.  It can also be called my office downstairs.  I figured since I spend a tremendous amount of my "off" time here, it would serve as my picture of the day.

R. Lee Ermey Holds a Press Conference - For Your Reading Pleasure

In a perfect world, Marine Corps Drill Instructors would be allowed to address the Press.  The following was sent to me by a friend and co-worker.  He is a Veterean and his son is a graduate of Westpoint.

This is what it would be like if DI's were allowed to speak to the press.  I will warn you the language is, well, Drill Instructor like.  Enjoy!:

For the few of you who missed him, R. Lee Ermey is the host of The History Channel's "Mail Call" and played the Drill Instructor in the movie, "Full Metal Jacket." He is a retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant and a very plain speaker, as you will read. So, for your entertainment, here is Retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant R. Lee Ermey at his first press conference. The main topic of discussion is a Marine in Iraq who shot an Iraqi insurgent to death.

We pick up with the reporter asking about how this "potential war crime" will affect our image in the world:

Ermey: "WHAT KIND OF A PANSY-ASSED QUESTION IS THAT?"

Reporter 1: "Well I think...."

Ermey: "THINK, FANCY BOY?! GET THIS THROUGH THAT SEPTIC TANK ON TOP OF YOUR SHOULDERS, YOU MORON: I DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT YOU THINK, DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME? THAT MARINE SHOT A KILLER, AN ENEMY COMBATANT, A SHITHEAD; SO GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS AND DEAL WITH IT BEFORE I MAKE YOU MY OWN PERSONAL PIN CUSHION!

NEXT QUESTION: YOU IN THE BLUE SUIT."

Reporter 2: Don't you think that the world's opinion of our operations is important?

Ermey: "OH SURE! YOU DON'T KNOW THE TIMES I HAVE CRIED MYSELF TO SLEEP WORRYING ABOUT WHAT SOME GODDAMNED FRENCH PANSY THINKS! OH, THE DAYS I'VE WEPT BECAUSE I FELT SOME SHIT EATING, TERRORIST SCUMBAG, MIGHT BE MAD AT US BECAUSE WE WENT INTO WHATEVER GOD-FOR-SAKEN SHIT HOLE HE LIVED IN AND KILLED ONE OF HIS PALS AS WE TOOK HIM PRISIONER. WHAT THE HELL KIND OF DUMBASS QUESTION IS THAT, YOU PETER-PUFFING JACKASS? WE ARE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND WHEN YOU ATTACK US WE'RE GOING TO COME TO YOUR HOUSE AND BLOW YOUR STINKING, CAMEL-LICKING CARCASS INTO PIECES SO SMALL WE WILL BE ABLE TO BURY YOUR SORRY ASS IN A THIMBLE! YEAH, I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING. YOU'RE PROBABLY AFRAID OF OPINION, THINKING THAT I HAVE SUCH AN "EXTREME" ATTITUDE, AND THAT I NEED TO BE MORE "SENSITIVE" TO OTHER PEOPLE'S FEELINGS. WELL HOW ABOUT THE FEELINGS OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT HAD TO JUMP FROM WINDOWS IN THE TWIN TOWERS ON 9/11 FROM 70 AND 80 STORIES UP? OR THOSE PEOPLE WHO NEVER HAD A CHANCE TO JUMP. LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING, YOU POLE-SMOKING PANSY! I DON'T GIVE TWO SHITS, OR EVEN ONE SHIT, WHAT YOU OR ANYBODY ELSE THINKS! THIS IS A DAMN WAR WE'RE IN, AND IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE THAT THEN YOU SHOULD GO HOME AND SUCK ON YER MAMMA'S TIT! DO YOU HEAR ME, YOU CROSS-EYED, TAKE-IT-UP-THE-ASS, POGUE? NOW GET THE HELL OUT OF MY PRESS ROOM BEFORE I GO CRAZY AND DECIDE TO KICK THE LIVING CRAP OUT OF YOU!

NEXT QUESTION: YOU WITH THE UGLY-ASSED TIE. LOOK AT THAT THING! LORDY BE JESUS, IT'S HIDEOUS! DID YOU BUY THAT DAMNED THING, OR DID YOU FIND IT IN A BACK ALLEY SHITCAN?"

Reporter 3: "Aren't you going against the freedom of the press by..."

Ermey: "FREEDOM? WHAT IN BLUE HELL DO YOU KNOW ABOUT FREEDOM? I'VE SWEATED MY ASS OFF IN JUNGLES, AND ELSEWHERE, WHILE BEING SHOT AT FOR THIS NATION AND ITS PEOPLE! WHAT IN THE HELL HAVE YOU DONE, YOU SHIT-SUCKING WEASEL? WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU PUT YOUR ASS ON THE LINE FOR ANYBODY OR ANYTHING? AND YET YOU HAVE THE UNMITIGATED TEMERITY TO SHOW UP HERE AND MONDAY-MORNING QUARTERBACK THE ACTIONS OF A BRAVE MARINE ENGAGED IN MORTAL COMBAT ON YOUR BEHALF AND THE BEHALF OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, A MARINE WHO WAS DEFENDING HIMSELF AND HIS UNIT FROM AN ATTACK BY SOME MURDEROUS AL-QUEDA SON-OF-A-BITCH! WELL, KISS MY ASS; YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT I AM CONCERNED ABOUT, NUMB-NUTS? I AM CONCERNED ABOUT A BUNCH OF SHIT-ASSED, HALF-ASSED ORGANIZED MORONS WITH CAMERAS AND MICROPHONES DOING THEIR BEST TO PORTRAY OUR BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN SOLDIERS AND MARINES AS MODERN WAR CRIMINALS! I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THE CHICKEN-SHIT PANSIES WHO WANT US TO NEGOTIATE WITH TERRORISTS AND WHINE ABOUT THEIR PISS-ANT "FREEDOMS!"

Reporter 3: "I ..."

Ermey: "'I WHAT', YOU ASSHOLE? DID YOU HAVE A BIG BOWL OF STUPID CEREAL FOR BREAKFAST THIS MORNING, NUMB-NUTS? I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ANOTHER WORD OUT OF THAT COMMIE CRY HOLE IN THAT SHIT-PILE YOU CALL A HEAD! AND THAT GOES TRIPLE FOR THE REST OF YOU PANSY-ASSED, ULTRA-LEFT-WING, LIBERAL ASSED, SHIT SIMPLE, MORONS! NOW ALL OF YOU GET THE HELL OUT OF MY PRESS ROOM BEFORE I SHOVE MY MY SIZE 12-BOOT SO FAR UP YOUR ASSES THAT YOU ALL END UP CHOKING TO DEATH ON MY SHOELACES!"

Ah, yes, Marine Corps DI's have a language all their own. God bless 'em all.

Sh*t My Dad Says - A Must Read

I just recently finished the book Sh*t My Dad Says.  I could recommend this book enough.  I laughed out loud each time I picked it up.  I grew up with my Father being one of the most sarcastic humans to walk the face of this plant.  In fact he still is to this day.  There were many items in this read that made me feel like someone had been spying on my teen years and my Dad and then wrote the book.

I have yet to watch the television show by the same title. I am not sure what its like.  But, I can tell you if you pick this book up you will not regret it.

A Personal Challenge Accepted - 1/15/11

There are moments that come along during our walk through this life in which speak particularly to you. These may not be life altering crossroad style moments.  But, they are these brief flashes that address you personally.  They challenge your very being.  In slang terms, they "call you out".  They beg to be defeated.  They summons you to this encounter and beg for you to decimate them.  I was faced with one of these very rendezvous this morning.  I emerged after a long fought battle as the victor.  The evidence of the initial dare is the topic of today's picture of the day.

I'm Not Coming out From Under the Blanket - 1/14/11

It's funny that sometimes the thing you see 20 minutes after you get out of bed, you know will be the most photo worthy moment all day long.  Case in point - after getting out of bed this morning, Pete, refused to move and let me make up the bed.  So I made it up over the top of him.  He was completely engulfed by blankets for several minutes.  After about 15 minutes this is what I saw.  He stayed like this for almost a half hour.  I guess if I had to go outside, barefooted to pee in this weather, I would be in no hurry either.  Pete again is the Picture of the Day.

BRRRRRRRRR This Sucks -1/13/11

Nothing fancy about today's picture of the day.  No fancy camera, just a Blackberry.  This is what I saw when I got in my vehicle this morning.  It speaks for itself.  I hate winter!

Protesting of Military Funerals

It is now time for another one my opinionated, bull headed rants.  Today's rant topic is brought to you by the deranged, disgusting lowest forms of life - Fred Phelps and the idiotic group of followers calling themselves the Westboro Baptist Church.  I would like to also give fair warning there is a great chance this blog entry will contain a fair amount of explicatives when I describe how I feel.  You have been warned.

We have all seen or heard these fruitcakes and their protests.  I would think the overwhelming majority of decent and not so decent human beings would view the act of protesting the funeral of a fallen military person as vile and disgusting as anything that could be imagined.  I am not sure this thought would actually even cross the mind of anyone.  I will give it to the coward Phelps, who hides behind his attorneys, he leads an equal opportunity group of offenders.  They protest all sorts of things throughout the United States.  They were going to protest the funeral of the 9 year old killed in Tucson, but decided against it.  This was done in exchange for air time on a couple of radio stations.  Not only does he seek shelter behind freedom of speech, this spineless piece of trash uses his kids and other small children to participate in these protests.

The basis for their protests is that God is mad at the US and punishing our people because of our views and acceptance of homosexuality.  Basically anytime there is a tragedy or a serviceman is killed these pieces of shit show up and display all of their pre printed protest signs and yell horrific insults at the grieving family members.   I have personally witnessed this during the funeral of a local veteran that was killed by an IED.

I understand there is freedom of speech in our country.  But, just because you have the right to do it doesn't mean you should.  To be honest with you, something like this, you should not have the right to do.  The Westboro Wackos have been sued numerous times.  In some the cases they lost, but were later overturned.  However, for the most part the areas that have passed the laws banning the protests have later had them overturned because of Freedom of Speech issues.  Missouri fits into that category.

In many of the locations where these pieces of slime slide into to protest, the community, the Patriot Guard and veterans assemble a human shield and block out the protesters so they can't be seen by the grieving family members.  I have participated in these "walls".  What is so ironic about this is when you do, we received specific instructions by police not to touch them, no matter what.  This was because, "they will sue all of us."
I am really sick of the Politically Correct society that is so afraid to step and say, "Hey you are an asshole.  Either cut that shit out or I am going to stomp a hole in your chest."  Maybe that is a little extreme for some.  However someone somewhere has to start seeing thing s realistically before we completely handcuff our society.

In November of last year a medically retired veteran by the name of Ryan Newell was arrested for "stalking" the members of the "church" as they left a protest. The following is a portion of the AP story detailing this:

WICHITA, Kan. (CBS/WIBW/AP) A wounded war veteran, who is accused of stalking members of a Kansas church that made headlines for their controversial protests at soldiers' funerals, was released from Sedgewick County Jail in Wichita Tuesday afternoon. Retired Sgt. Ryan Newell, of Marion, had been held on $500,000 bond since his arrest Nov. 30 after officers said they witnessed him following members of Westboro Baptist Church in his white, Ford SUV after the members left their protest at Mulvane High School, according to CBS affiliate WIBW. The 26-year-old double-amputee was allegedly carrying an M4 rifle, a .45-caliber Glock pistol and a .38 Smith and Wesson pistol in his vehicle at the time of his arrest. Newell, who lost both of his legs in a roadside bomb explosion in Afghanistan, faces a felony charge of conspiracy and several misdemeanor charges, reports WIBW.

On Tuesday, Judge Ben Burgess allowed Newell to leave jail on his own recognizance, on the condition that he report to a VA hospital. Boyd McPherson, Newell's attorney, declined to comment on the specific treatment that his client must receive. The church, led by Pastor Fred Phelps of Topeka, Kan., is known for its protests across the nation with signs like "Thank God for Dead Soldiers" and "God Hates the USA" to demonstrate their view that U.S. deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq are God's retribution for American immorality and tolerance of homosexuality and abortion.

Newell, who is married with four children, appeared in good spirits as he walked out of jail with his attorney, according to KSNW-TV.

I hope that Sgt, Newell walks away unscathed from this incident.  Search the web and you will find numerous groups raising money fro his defense.  To be honest is anyone shocked something liked that happened?  I am more shocked that something more severe has not happened.

In closing this rant that has the potential to go on for hours, if these freaks are coming your way, get out and be a part of the "wall".  Do your part.

Teaching A Competitive Attitude and How to Taunt When You Win -1/12/11

Here at the McHawes Home we love to compete, in everything that we do.  My wife Gayla and I have enjoyed competing in sports our whole life and we have tried to instill that in our daughters.  They are both ultra competitive in whatever it is they are doing.  They will begin basketball in a couple weeks.  That should be an adventure.
Anyway each night we usually play a little on the Wii.  Madison has gotten very good at the tennis.  When there is a game there is a winner and a loser.  It appears Madison has also mastered the "Taunt" after a victory.  As you can see in today's picture of the day, as she taunts her mother after a decisive victory in Wii tennis.

Hey Watch Where You are Pointing That Thing

A continuation in my quest for the news of the weird:

Nudists sue over public shooting range
Associated Press
SULTAN, Wash. (AP) -- You could say the right to "bare" arms is at issue in Washington state. Nudists are suing to block a public shooting range. Fans of the all-over tan want to stop plans for a gun range near their nudist park. The Lake Bronson Club contends the state can't transfer forestland to the county for a gun range. Club secretary Jodi Halfhill notes the proposed shooting range is just a mile from their campsites and hiking trails. But county officials tell a local paper (Daily Herald) they're confident the range will be approved.

My Kids Like You, But I Want You to Leave - 1/11/11

Old Man Winter and Mr. Snow, my children may like you but I am ready for you take yourself back to where ever it is you go.  I am ready for some warm weather and Cardinal baseball.  I am ready to coach football.  I am ready to set on my deck and have good cigar and a cold Budweiser.  I am ready for you to leave.

But, until you decide to I guess I'm stuck with you.  I might as well enjoy my children enjoying you.  So that is theme for today's picture of the day.

A Fallen Soldier from Festus - 1/10/11

About a mile from my home there is a memorial park and statue of a fallen soldier from Festus.  His name is Andrew Habsieger.  He was killed on March 24, 2008 in Baghdad by an IED.  The land for the memorial was donated from Lowes and a local artist made the statue by carving it from wood with a chainsaw.

I did not know Andrew.  But, I am thankful for his sacrifice to our Country and our freedom.  He paid the ultimate price and should never be forgotten.  I am also attaching a brief article that I found the web about Andrew.  He is the topic of today's picture.  Rest In Peace and thank you.

Army Pfc. Andrew J. Habsieger
Remember Our Heroes
Army Pfc. Andrew J. Habsieger, 22, of Festus, Mo.

Pfc. Habsieger was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.; died March 24, 2008 in Baghdad from wounds sustained when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device on March 23. Also killed were Staff Sgt. Christopher M. Hake, Pfc. George Delgado and Cpl. Jose A. Rubio Hernandez.

Andrew Habsieger, 22, was a standout football player at Festus High School in Festus, Mo., before he enlisted in the Army in 2004.

"He was one of those kids that was always proud to make sacrifices," said Joel Critchlow, Habsieger's football coach. "When he bought into something, he went 110%. There was no halfway with Andy."

Habsieger, who felt compelled to join the military because of the 9/11 attacks, also had a sense of humor. On his MySpace page, he wrote: "I am from a small town in Missouri called Festus. Right now I am visiting the beautiful country of Iraq."
Army Pfc. Andrew J. Habsieger was killed in action on 3/24/08.

How Most Nights are Spent at Our Home - 1/9/11

Today's picture is a simple one.  It shows how most nights are spent in our home.  Madison and Marli creating some sort of "project".  They will draw, paint and color for hours.  We have designated one room in our house that is used just as their art/play room.  I hope they continue to be creative their whole lives.

Take the Guns. Is that the Answer?

Gun control and the mention of Gun Laws are usually guaranteed to spark some heated conversations.  Individuals are usually very passionate in their beliefs.  With the tragedy that occurred in Arizona yesterday I guarantee there will be renewed and vigilant push for tighter control and more laws.  There will be ambassadors from each end of the spectrum taking their point of view to whoever will listen.  These scenarios play themselves out each and every there is a horrific act involving a gun.

A horrific situation like what occurred in Arizona is terrible.  The 9 year old girls that was shot killed, Christina Green, was an innocent bystander.  Her birthday was on a tragic history changing day, September 11, 2001 and the day of her death has also become a black mark on our history.  I can’t imagine what her family is going through.

Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold of Columbine infamy, Seung-Hui Cho (Virginia Tech), Mark David Champman ( Shot John Lennon) and John Hinckley (attempted to kill President Reagan) are all names of deranged lunatics who have committed senseless and shocking crimes with guns.  They have fueled the fire for gun control.  I can see it where it may be easy to hop onto the bandwagon in these cases.

However, the underlying issue here is yes the guns did facilitate the shootings.  But, these guns did not break free from their owners, run away and commit monstrous crimes.  The psychos behind the triggers killed the people.  To blame the gun would be along the same path of suing the pencil companies because you misspell words or as a comedian said blaming Playboy for his carpal tunnel.   At no time in history has a firearm loaded itself and attacked someone.  There is not one documented case of this, ever.

Gun laws are for law abiding citizens.  In the years of being a police officer I never, not one time, took a gun from someone that was obeying the law.  I took plenty from criminals.  The bottom line is the bad guys, the criminals and the nuts could not care less if there are guns law prohibiting them from doing whatever has landed in their twisted mind.  They don’t care.  Period.

There are more statistics available as to Concealed Carry laws, do they prevent or promote crimes than you can wrap your head around.  You can find them to render information in any direction you want.  There are plenty of news stories as to how a victim fought back because they were carrying.  Good for them.    The answer is not more laws or restrictions.  I am not sure if there is an answer or solution.  People have killed people since the beginning of time and will continue to do so till the end of time.  It is horrible and each case is a tragedy.  But, those who decide to commit these acts don’t care about laws, consequences of their actions or who they hurt.  Additional gun laws will never reduce the crime rate.
So, I ask you step back and think about the next time you hear about the push for “taking the guns”.  What you will really be losing is a constitutional right, not just you gun.  If there is a ban on guns, then only the criminals will have them.
