Marli trains for the circus - 5/30/11

I am sure you have picked up on the fact my family is not, shall we say, boring or like most others.  Most families can sit around have conversation or watch TV without much excitement.  Well, in our house we are always coming up with silly human tricks to pass the time.  Here is Marli practicing her balance for a possible future as a circus performer.  This is the picture of the day.

Gayla and her trip to the face of the Sun - 5/29/11

Today my wife decided she would sit on the back deck and grab a "few" rays.  After while she decided that wasn't working so she decided ot cut the grass and do some yard work in a tank top.  It was not long after dinner it was discoverd that she looked like she had did the yard work on the face of the Sun.  Here she is with her vinegar soaked wash cloths "enjoying" her tan.  This is the picture of the day.

Fixing up the Stone Bleachers - 5/28/11

In addition to getting a new High School building, the Stone Bleachers of Herculaneum High School are getting a face lift also.  I will admit when I drove by the other day and saw the shape of the bleachers, I hit the panic button.  I made a quick call to Coach Cook and he assured me the bleachers were just getting a little repair work.  This is the picture of the day.

A view from above - 5/27/11

After almost two weeks on the road away from home, it was time to head back to Festus.  Here is a view from 37,000 ft.  I always enjoy looking "down" at the clouds.  This is the picture of the day.

Roll one for me - 5/26/11

The search for the perfect cigar took me to Cuban Crafters in Miami, Florida.  While taking in their HUGE selection of the tobacco of the Gods, I snapped a quick picture of two of the employees rolling a few sticks.  I purchased a few of the USMC cigars this store had to offer.  This is the picture of the day.

Too intense - 5/24/11

I do not want to rub it in that I have been in Miami, Florida all week  (oh, and Tampa the week before), but the intensity of the conference forced me to step outside for a break.  This is the picture of the day.

Work Conditions are rough this week at Doral - 5/24/11

The work conditions this week are going to be a tad bit rough.  I will have to be at the Doral Golf Resort each day this week.  Damn job!  This is what I see outside of the conference that I am in.  Damn job!

Fogo de Chao Miami style - 5/23/11

The quest for perfect food has continued in Miami.  We returned to a favorite from DC, Fogo de Chao.  I must say that once again, I was not let down in the least bit.  There is a Fogo in Kansas City.  It would be worth the drive from St. Louis to eat there.  This is the picture of the day.

Hello Dexter Morgan, well at least the apartment - 5/22/11

I got to thinking while I was here in Miami, I should search out the apartment of America's favorite serial killer, Dexter Morgan.  After a little search on the web and a GPS, I was off on my hunt.  I located the complex and then climbed over the no trespassing signs and the do not enter or the police will be called signs to get into the bushes to get my picture.  My mission was accomplished.  It is the apartment on the far right.  If you are a fan you will recognize the apartment.  This is the picture of the day.

Deep Sea Fishing in Florida - 5/21/11

Today provided me with a chance to mark another item off of the Bucket List.  Due to the generosity of my close friend, Bill Hancock and his wife myself and co-worker joined them for a 4 hour chartered fishing trip.  It was a great time, one that I would like to do again in the future.  This is the picture of the day.

More signs in Tampa, what were they thinking? - 5/20/11

Driving through Tampa, I saw a few more business signs that I felt deserved to be featured here as pictures of the day.  The first was Badcock & more.  More what?  According to the signs it made things easier.  If that dried you out you can go down the street to wet your whistle at Kim's Liquor Box.  These are the pictures of the day.

Parking here can be a pain the A** - 5/19/11

Yesterday on the way into work I saw these signs and thought the irony could not go unrecognized.  It is a Greek eatery with parking in the rear.  This is the picture of the day.

King Corona Cigar in Ybor city - 5/19/11

The 2nd night in Tampa was another adventure in great food and cigars.  The dinner was another Brazilian steak house by the name of Texas de Brazil.  It was a dead heat with Fogo de Chou in DC.  They both had their bests.  This will be an ongoing evaluation.  I also hit the Thompson Cigar Headquarters.  Then from there it was back to Ybor City and to my favorite place on the strip, King Corona Cigars.  The humidor has a phenominal  selection.  This is the picture of the day.

Tampa Florida & cigars - 5/17/11,

After a day of travel, I have reached my destination of Tampa, Florida.  I am not going to rub it in and say how nice it is here.  However, I will say after a day in a plane it was time for a good meal, a cold beer and a hand rolled cigar in Ybor City.  This mission was accomplished.  This is the picture of the day.

"Hey guys, I lost a tooth" - 5/16/11

Softball night usually means a whirlwind of activity around the McHawes house.  We are running around trying to get everything ready and this usually results in a drive by of the drive thru for dinner.  Tonight was no different, sorta.  After making the drive thru order of a Happy Meals for the girls.  Just like all kids they dive right into the...toy.  Madison pulls out the plastic bag holding the little treasure, then gives is the old fashioned kid way of putting the bag in your teeth and pulling until it rips.  This time the bag wins.  We here, "hey guys, I lost a tooth."  This is the picture of the day.

Carpet 1 - Madison's toenail -0 -5/15/11

Madison ran and slid on the carpet at my sister-in-law's house today.  This resulted in a little peeling back of the toe nail.  As you can see from the picture, the carpet won.  This is the picture of the day.

The Elks to have a "GRNAD" opening? - 5/14/11

Today while I was out and about around town I noticed this sign leading into the Festus Elks.  As many of you know that live in this area, the Elks burned to the ground a few months ago.  Well it seems they are ready to go back in business.  They are going to have a "Grnad" opening and starting to have "Metings" again.  Hopefully they pick up a dictionary for their sign writer.  This is the picture of the day.

My father in law's new ride - 5/13/11

My father in law is a car fanatic.  He will take old beaters, restore them and make them look like something that just drove out of a showroom.  It is amazing the work he does.  He recently traded a Chevelle that he restored and this is his new ride, a 1936 Chevy.  This is the picture of the day.

Marine portrait from D.C - 5/12/11

I posted last week, I recently was able to pay a visit to the Marine War Memorial.  After about a thousand pictures from every angle, this is the first one that I had processed.  It is the picture of the day.  Semper Fi.

Madison, my little physical phenom - 5/11/11

I have told stories about Madison being my little Terminator since she was born.  I could go on for hours about some of the physical things she has done since she was born.  However, you probably don't want to hear them or may not believe them.  So, anyway, she comes home from school today and she had received a Physical Fitness Award.  I am proud of her as always.  This is the picture of the day.

21 years later and the same envelopes - 5/10/11

I received another letter from my son today.  The enveloped and the stationary brought a smile to my face.  They sold the same stuff when I was in boot camp, 21 plus years ago.  A Marine Corps tradition.  I wonder if it still comes in the small box when you buy it?  This is the picture of the day.

Madison and Marli hit the softball diamond - 5/9/11

The Gateway Screamers made their debut tonight.  It was top notch softball.  I was very impressed the way all the kids played.  Madison and Marli both hit really well.  I think the highlight of the night is when Marli amde it to 2nd base and she tipped her helmet to me when I gave her the tumbs up.  Here is a shot before the game.  This is the picture of the day.

Happy Mother's Day - 5/8/11

I am a person that was truly blessed with a wonderful Mother.  To list all of things that she means to me and why I love her the way I do, would be a novel in itself.  To sum it up, I would never trade her.  Mom, came by it naturally though.  My Grandmother definitely set the standard.  I was able to attend Church with her today.

With that being said, I get to see one of the greatest Mothers of all time at work everyday; my wife.  I could not have been more blessed with a Mother for my daughters.

I love you Mom, Grandma and my wife Gayla.  Happy Mother's day.  Here is a quick picture of my Mom and I. This is the picture of the day.

The Countdown - 5/7/11

I saw these in the airport in DC.  By the way it was the Reagan Airport.  I do not feel these need an explanation.  These are the pictures of the day.

Ronald Reagan, Ric Flair and the Marine Corps - 5/6/11

Where can you fine a tribute to the greatest President ever, Ronald Reagan, one of the greatest Wrestlers of all time, Ric Flair and the World's finest fighting force the United States Marine Corps?  The Smithsonian Museum of American History.  For my last night in DC I decided to hit one more museum.  Awesome place,  the best of the Smithsonian's.  They have great stuff on Reagan (and all Presidents), a tremendous military tribute and one of the "60 minute man that can go all night long, you have to beat the man to be the man, woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" Ric Flair's robes and boots.  Many of my favorite things all in one building.  These are the pictures of the day.

Sushi-Go-Round - 5/5/11

The mall in DC is not only one of the biggest I have ever been to, it also has possible the coolest concept for a sushi bar I have ever seen.  The sushi is in covered plates and on a conveyor belt.  The belt continiously circles the bar area and you just reach up and take a plate as it goes by.  My best description, a sushi-go-round.  This is the picture of the day.

Oh Sh*t that's a big sloth - 5/4/11

Since I have been in DC this week I have attempted to take in a Smithsonian Museum each night after work.  I strolled through the Museum of Natural History tonight.  This is where I ran across this fellow.  It is a Giant Land Sloth.  One ugly Mother!  He is the picture of the day.

Best food in DC - 5/3/11

There is no doubt there are some impressive sites and things to see if you are in D.C.  I am always in search of the "best" food in an area.  I must bid a thanks to co-worker Chris Ferguson on his recommendation of Fogo de Chao.  I know what the hell kind of name is that.  It is a Brazilian Steak House located about 5 blocks from the White House.  To describe how good the steaks are is impossible.  They provide 15 different types and cuts of meat.  The waiters walk around cutting the meat from skewers they carry.  Trust the Big Guy on this one, bar none the best steaks I have ever eaten.  This is the picture of the day.

Bin Laden- Na na na na, hey-a, good bye - 5/2/11

One to the chest, one to the head and it's all over.  To be in the Nation's capital and see and hear the reaction is amazing.  My deepest gratitude to the Navy SEAL that had the calmness to squeeze off two shots and send this rotten bastard burning into hell to his 72 goat virgins.  I hope they feed him ham slices while he burns.

I will be honest I never thought this day would happen.  I thought there was a good chance he may have already been kaput.  It's finally a sense of some closure.  We must remain vigilant and on our toes, but it is good to know one more worthless piece of trash has been disposed of.  This is the picture of the day.

The Few, The Proud - 5/1/11

Today, I reached a destination that I have wanted to see since I was a small child.  Anyone who knows me knows how I feel about being a Marine and the United States Marine Corps.  The Marine Corps War Memorial is something I wanted to see, it is part of my bucket list.  I got to check that box today.  To stand next to the memorial placed me in awe.  It was more than I ever imagined.  As I stood back in humble admiration I listened as people talked about how it was the most impressive monument in D.C.  I told one gentlemen, "If you find it impressive, you should be a Marine and be here."

The monument is there to pay respect to the all of the dead of the United States Marine Corps.  It depicts the flag raising on Mount Suribachi during World War II.  The statue was dedicated by President Eisenhower on November 10, 1954, the 179th anniversary of the Marine Corps.  This is proudly the picture of the day.  Semper Fidelis and good night Chesty Puller where ever you are.
